MCALESTER, Okla., Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Oklahoma has executed Johnny Dale Black, a convicted killer who said just before receiving a lethal injection his death "isn't accomplishing anything."
Black was executed at 6:08 p.m. Tuesday at the state prison in McAlester, state Corrections Department Public Information Officer Jerry Massie said.
"This isn't accomplishing anything. It's just another death, another family destroyed," Black said in a final statement read by Massie. "I love everybody. I love you, you can count on that, Mama."
KXII-TV, Ada, said Black, 48, was convicted of first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon in the 1998 roadside stabbing death of Bill Pogue, a 54-year-old horse trainer from Ringling.
The TV station said Black was the sixth person executed in Oklahoma this year.
