Norfolk State cheerleaders are back after hazing investigation

PORTSMOUTH, Va., Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Norfolk State University cheerleaders were cleared of hazing allegations after an investigation, a spokesman for the Norfolk, Va., school said.

In October, parents of at least two new cheerleaders claimed the students were bullied and hazed by veteran cheerleaders, telling WAVY-TV, Portsmouth, incoming cheerleaders were forced to hold weights or sit in darkened rooms for long periods of time.

An unidentified school official said the allegations were proven to be unfounded.

The cheerleading squad was suspended and did not perform at the school's November homecoming games, but its ban has been lifted, WAVY-TV reported Wednesday.
