AURORA, Colo., Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Lawyers in the case of a fatal theater shooting in Colorado were in court Wednesday to set hearings on the defendant's insanity plea.
Arapahoe County District Court Judge Carlos Samour delayed hearings on the mental state of accused gunman James Holmes until Jan. 27 to Jan. 30. Hearings had originally been scheduled for Jan. 6 and 7, the Denver Post reported.
Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity after entering a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., in July 2012 and opening fire, killing 12 people and wounding another 70.
Defense lawyers have argued Holmes' mental illness drove him to commit the act.
Prosecutors reviewed a portion of a doctor's diagnosis of Holmes and said they disagree. They have petitioned Samour for a new evaluation.
