Tornadoes touch down in Florida as snow pummels East

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Tornadoes passed through Florida's east coast as several inches of snow brought much of the Midwestern and Eastern United States to a crawl, officials said.

Weather officials believe a tornado touched down in Flagler and Volusia counties in Florida Saturday, damaging trees and homes, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.

There were no weather-related injuries reported.

Meanwhile, a swath of the United States stretching from Missouri to Maine experienced snow, ice and freezing rain Saturday, Accuweather.com reported.

Several automobile crashes were reported in the Detroit area and Pennsylvania due to dangerous wintry road conditions. New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, Newark International Airport and Chicago O'Hare experienced delayed or canceled flights.

Topping the list of snow totals Saturday was Landgrove, Vt., which received 17 inches of snow, Accuweather said. Boston received 4.2 inches, Central Park 5 inches and Kennebunk, Maine, 13.3 inches.
