4 dead in police chase crash in California

COMPTON, Calif., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A car being chased at high speeds by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies crashed into another vehicle, leaving four people dead, authorities said.

The fiery early Saturday crash in Compton came at the end of a 2-mile chase that began after deputies pulled over the car because they believed it matched the description of a vehicle involved in a shooting that just occurred, Sheriff's Sgt. Peter Ramirez said.

The Los Angeles Times reported the car, which was carrying two men and a woman, sped off when deputies got out of their car and later ran a red light, smashing into the other vehicle before careening into a utility poll, a brick wall and a garage. The car burst into flames.

The only victim positively identified by the Los Angeles County coroner was Stacey Garcia, 30, of Los Angeles. It wasn't known which vehicle she was in.

The Times said relatives said two of the people in the pursued car were Larry Gilmore, 35, and Shawnice Osborne, 20.
