Investigators said Untron Drew, ticketed for reckless driving, failing to obey signals at a railroad crossing and not wearing a seat belt, could face additional charges, WTKR in Richmond reported. Police have said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The northbound train from Norfolk, Va., to Boston struck Drew's Crown Victoria in Waverley at about 6 a.m. None of the crew members or 46 passengers on the train were injured.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya said the warning lights and crossing bar were working, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported. Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, Anaya said.
Drew was taken by helicopter to a Richmond hospital. The train was delayed by about 2 hours.
