Police patrolling a residential area noticed all street light on two streets in northern Beverly Hills were out and began patrolling the area for suspicious behavior. They found it in the form of a vehicle occupied by four 18-year-olds and a 19-year-old.
Officers pulled over the vehicle about 1:50 a.m. Friday and found tools in the vehicle consistent with stealing copper wiring, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Copper is one of the most valuable metals being sold on the scrap market and its price continues to increase -- and with it the number of reported thefts across the country, the Times said.
The specific charges against the teens were not reported.
