Giffords shifts campaign funds to pro-gun control PAC

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., has terminated her campaign committee and moved its revenues to her pro-gun control PAC, Roll Call reported.

Giffords -- who resigned from Congress in January 2012 as she recovered from critical injuries sustained in a mass shooting at a public meeting in Tucson in 2011 -- terminated her Giffords for Congress committee Thursday, Roll Call reported Friday.

She transferred the remaining $297,703 from that account to her Rights and Responsibilities PAC, formerly known as Gabby PAC, the report said.

Giffords also maintains a super PAC called Americans for Responsible Solutions, intended to support local government officials in efforts to prevent gun violence and foster responsible gun ownership.

Politico reported the Rights and Responsibilities PAC's first campaign donations will go to U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa. -- who worked unsuccessfully for Senate passage of a bipartisan gun control bill -- and to Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine and Sen. Kay Hagan, D-N.C., who supported the Toomey bill.
