SACRAMENTO, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama's job approval numbers in reliably liberal California are slipping, with only a tiny majority offering positive reviews, a poll finds.

A new Field Poll finds 51 percent of Californians approve of Obama's job performance, while 43 percent disapprove -- an increase of 8 points since July.

Obama's poll numbers nationally have taken a hit during the botched roll-out of his signature healthcare law.

In California, voters without any party affiliation lead the pack in those souring on the president nearly a year into his second term. Obama's disapproval has increased 16 percentage points among independents since July. As promised immigration reform stalls on Capitol Hill, Obama's approval rating among the Golden State's large Latino population has also taken a hit with a 16 percentage point increase in those who disapprove of his job performance.

Obama's overall approval rating is down 9 percentage points from a 62 percent high during at the beginning of his second term.

The survey queried 766 registered voters in California from Nov. 14 to Dec. 1. It has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
