Administration says HealthCare.gov improvements on schedule

WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Federal health officials said Sunday they met their self-imposed deadline to improve HealthCare.gov by installing hardware upgrades and software fixes.

The deadline for a problem-free Affordable Care Act enrollment website was Saturday.

"While we strive to innovate and improve our outreach and systems for reaching consumers, we believe we have met the goal of having a system that will work smoothly for the vast majority of users," the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Sunday in a report.

"The bottom line, HealthCare.gov on Dec. 1 is night and day from where it was on Oct. 1," Jeffrey Zients, who oversaw the fixes, said in the operational update.

Under the improvements, the average system response time is less than 1 second and the error rate is "consistently well below 1 percent," the report said. The online system is stable 90 percent of the time and up to 50,000 shoppers are able to use the site simultaneously for up to 800,000 visits per day.

The report said there's still work to be done on the website "to improve and enhance the website and continue to improve the consumer experience."
