Horse pulling Amish buggy shot

RONKS, Pa., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A horse pulling an Amish buggy in central Pennsylvania was shot by a passing motorist and died, police said.

The incident happened about 9 p.m. Monday in Ronks, Lancaster County. Five passengers riding in the buggy told police they heard what sounded like a firecracker from a passing vehicle about a mile from their home. When they arrived they found their horse bleeding from the mouth, WHTM-TV, Harrisburg, reported.

A veterinarian was called but the animal died before he arrived. A bullet hole was found in the left side of the horse's chest. None of the passengers were injured.

No description of the vehicle was offered and it did not stop following the incident.
