Del City, Okla., police captain guilty in shooting death of suspect

OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A Del City, Okla., police captain was convicted of first-degree manslaughter Tuesday for fatally shooting an unarmed suspect in the back.

An Oklahoma County jury sentenced Capt. Randy Harrison, 48, to four years in prison for the March 14, 2012, shooting death of Dane Scott Jr., 18.

The jury began deliberating Monday. The presiding judge Tuesday replaced one juror who had refused to cast a vote as to Harrison's guilt or innocence. With an alternate taking that juror's place, the panel then reached its conclusion.

Scott was shot after scuffling with Harrison and while being disarmed by the officer. Harrison said he shot the young man because he feared for his life.

The incident began with a high-speed chase.
