Covered California reports 80K selected private health plans

SACRAMENTO, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Approximately 80,000 people have selected private health plans through Covered California, data from the state's health insurance marketplace indicated.

Information released by the state exchange Thursday indicated Covered California enrolled 31,000 people in October and nearly 50,000 through the first 19 days in November, The Hill reported.

The data include those who completed the enrollment process and selected a plan but haven't paid a premium yet.

The exchange also has a high number of individuals who filled out applications but hadn't selected a healthcare plan when the information was released, The Hill said. Covered California said it received more than 10,000 completed applications a day last week.

More than 360,000 people have completed applications in Covered California to date, The Hill said. The state's goal is to enroll about 1 million people in 2014.

The Obama administration earlier this month said 106,000 enrollees nationwide had enrolled in individual health plans. The 14 state-run exchanges have largely avoided problems that have plagued the federal healthcare.Gov website.
