SARASOTA, Fla., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Police in Sarasota said Tuesday they are investigating the suicide of Anders Ebberson, husband of former U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris, R-Fla.

Police The Rev. William Hild of the Sarasota First Baptist Church confirmed Ebberson, 68, a Swedish businessman, had taken his own life, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported.

Police were called to the couple's house at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

"Anders has been suffering health conditions that he's been attempting to deal with, which had been increasingly part of his life," Hild said.

Harris, 56, was a two-term Republican member of Congress who rose to national attention as Florida secretary of state for her role in Florida's 2000 U.S. presidential election returns recount.
