ARLINGTON, Texas, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- The assistant police chief of a central Texas community has been arrested at his home on a charge of domestic violence, authorities say.
James Hawthorne, assistant police chief for the city of Arlington, had just hours before been part of an event to end domestic violence, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Monday.
He was booked early Sunday morning on a charge of assault with bodily injury-family member, jail records indicated.
Bond was set at $1,500 but he also was held on an emergency protective order filed by a victim, police Lt. Christopher Cook said.
Police declined to identify the victim or the circumstances that led to Hawthorne's arrest.
Hawthorne was placed on administrative leave. He has been a member of the police department for 28 years.
Saturday morning, Hawthorne and other Arlington police officers had participated in a "Take a STAND Break the Silence" run and walk to raise awareness about domestic violence.
