APOPKA, Fla., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- George Zimmerman, the Florida man acquitted of killing Trayvon Martin, was charged Monday with allegedly aiming a shotgun at his girlfriend, authorities said.
The 30-year-old Sanford man was being held without bail in the Seminole County Jail on aggravated assault, domestic violence battery and criminal mischief, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Zimmerman is accused of pointing a shotgun at Samantha Scheibe, 27, breaking a table, pushing her out of her Seminole County home and barricading the door with furniture, said county sheriff's deputies who were called to the residence about 12:30 p.m.
Deputies said Zimmerman was not armed when they arrived and he offered no resistance as he was taken into custody, the newspaper said.
Scheibe was not physically hurt in the incident, Chief Deputy Dennis Lemma said.
"She was concerned for her safety, certainly from having the weapon pointed at her," Lemma said.
Zimmerman is the former neighborhood watch volunteer who was found not guilty in July on a charge he murdered Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, in 2012.
In September, he was handcuffed by Lake Mary, Fla., police but released after his estranged wife Shellie and her father accused him of threatening them with a gun while they were removing her belongings, the Sentinel said. Lake Mary police officially closed the case last week, saying they didn't have solid evidence Zimmerman broke the law.
