VALLEJO, Calif., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- School district staff in Vallejo, Calif., say it's time for the city's high school to get rid of its "Apaches" nickname and mascot.
The Vallejo City Unified School District administration will recommend the change to the school board Wednesday, the Vallejo Times-Herald reported Monday.

The staff report accompanying the board agenda notes the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights suggests the avoidance of using Native American names and images, but does not suggest a replacement for "Apaches."
The current nickname has been in use at Vallejo High for decades, the newspaper said.
