NEW YORK, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Americans should "parent together" to halt school violence, a group borne out of a murderous rampage at a Connecticut elementary school said Thursday.
Sandy Hook Promise, an organization comprised in part of relatives of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, kicked off its "Parent Together" campaign on "Good Morning America," ABC News reported.
"It's as simple as going to the website, SandyHookPromise.org, and making the promise to parent together. And by making that promise, you become part of a national community of parents who are committed to putting their children's lives first," said Nicole Hockley, whose son Dylan was killed in the Dec. 14, 2012, tragedy.
"That's the way to start having real conversation and make change," she added.
The organization released a public service announcement featuring cast members from the television shows "Modern Family" and 'Mistresses."
Following the shooting, in which 20 students and six teachers were killed, parents from the Sandy Hook community in Newtown, Conn., unsuccessfully lobbied Congress for changes to gun laws. The families are now working with lawmakers on mental health legislation.
