CAMP PENDLETON, Calif., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps Thursday named the four Marines killed in a training accident at Camp Pendleton while handling unexploded ordnance at a firing range.

KNSD-TV, San Diego, said the deceased were identified as Sgt. Miguel Ortiz, 27, of Vista, Calif.; Staff Sgt. Mathew R. Marsh, 28, of Long Beach, Calif.; Gunnery Sgt. Gregory J. Mullins, 31, of Bayou L'Ourse, La.; and Staff Sgt. Eric W. Summers, 32, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.

A Marine official told KABC-TV, Los Angeles, the Marines who died Wednesday were handling unexploded ordnance at a live-fire artillery range. They were part of a range maintenance team ordered to take care of any unexploded ordnance, the official told the TV station.

"We offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the families of the Marines lost today in this tragic accident," said Brig. Gen. John W. Bullard, the camp's commanding general. "Our first priority is to provide the families with the support they need during this difficult time."
