Hundreds protest neo-Nazi group's Kristallnacht rally

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Hundreds of people gathered in Kansas City, Mo., to protest a neo-Nazi group's anti-immigration rally on the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht.

The rally organized by the National Socialist Movement and the protest against it took place outside of the Jackson County Courthouse Saturday afternoon, The Kansas City Star reported.

Police kept the two groups separated by barricades and yellow tape. One anti-rally protester was arrested for throwing an unidentified object at the neo-Nazi group.

The National Socialist Movement planned the rally to protest immigration reform and other issues. The day of the rally coincided with the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht, "the night of broken glass," when thousands of synagogues, Jewish homes and businesses were destroyed in Germany and Austria. Thousands of Jews were transported to concentration camps in the following days.

Local lawmakers, civil rights groups and human rights organizations held a third rally at 3 p.m. Saturday at Kansas City's Liberty Memorial to denounce the neo-Nazi group, the newspaper said.
