BALTIMORE, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- A jury in Maryland was unable to decide how much a Baltimore developer should receive in damages for unnecessary heart surgery.
Baltimore County Circuit Judge Nancy Purpura declared a mistrial Wednesday, The Baltimore Sun reported.
Glenn Weinberg sued Dr. Mark Midei and Catholic Health Initiatives, the former owner of St. Joseph's Hospital in Baltimore County, seeking millions of dollars. Weinberg said he was forced to step down as a partner with the Cordish Companies after Midei inserted stents in his heart with no medical justification.
The jury last month found both Midei and Catholic Health responsible for Weinberg's losses. Purpura vacated the decision on Midei on Wednesday, leaving Catholic Health solely responsible.
Lawyers said a retrial may be held to determine the amount of damages.
Midei was once a prominent cardiologist. But he lost his license to practice in Maryland because of findings that he inserted stents needlessly.
One group of plaintiffs settled with the doctor and hospital during a trial.
