JACKSON, Miss., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Police have arrested a second suspect in the deaths of a family of three from Brandon, Miss., officials said.

Cedric Mason, 30, of Jackson, was arrested Wednesday night charged with two counts of capital murder and two counts of kidnapping for the deaths of Atira Hill-Smith, 30, her son Jaidon Hill, 7, and his stepfather Laterry Smith, 34, WAPT-TV, Jackson, Miss., reported.

The victims were found shot to death in an abandoned Copiah County home on Tuesday, police said. The family's car was found abandoned and burned near the house.

Police previously arrested Timothy Burns, 42, in the case. He has been charged with two counts of murder and arson in the case, authorities said.

Burns was denied bond at a hearing Wednesday.

Investigators said they believed Laterry Smith was killed at a home in Jackson. Atira Hill-Smith and Jaidon Hill likely walked into the house after the killing and were forced by the suspects into their family car. They were then transported, with Laterry Smith's body, to the abandoned house in Copiah County were they were killed, an official told WAPT-TV.
