Former TV weatherman admits attempted sex with teen

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A former TV weatherman in South Florida, already convicted of two sexual offenses involving a teenage boy, has pleaded guilty to a third offense.

Rob Lopicola, 43, is in jail in Palm Beach County awaiting sentencing, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported. Lopicola entered a guilty plea Monday to attempted sexual battery of a child.

Lopicola, who worked for WPTV in West Palm Beach from 1998 to 2006, was arrested in 2011 after the mother of a teenage boy found him hiding in the shower. He was convicted in October of lewd and lascivious conduct, computer pornography and child exploitation involving another teenager.

Under his plea agreement, he is to receive a five-year prison term to run concurrently with the 20 years he already faces.

Lopicola's defense was that he believed both teens were at least 18. Investigators said he gave his own age as 18 in a Craigslist ad seeking sex.
