California bus passenger burned when kilt set on fire

OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A passenger on an Oakland, Calif., public bus received burns to his legs after his kilt was set on fire, police said.

The driver of the bus noticed the man was on fire and stopped the bus to call for assistance, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

The severity of the man's injuries was not immediately known.

Authorities said the man, identified as 18 years old, may have been sleeping at the time of the attack about 5:10 p.m. Monday.

Other passengers fled out the back of the bus.

Police said they had not determined the reason for the attack or identified a suspect.
