FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Three members of a Florida family of so-called psychics who pleaded guilty to fleecing clients were sentenced to terms the judge said reflected their duplicity.
Conspiracy ringleader Rose Marks' only daughter, Rosie Marks, 38; son-in-law Donnie Eli, 40, of Fort Lauderdale; and younger sister, Victoria Eli, 58, who listed addresses in both Broward County and Secaucus, N.J., all had pleaded guilty.
Marks, who pleaded guilty to fraud conspiracy, was sentenced Monday to six months of house arrest with electronic monitoring and two years of probation. Donnie Eli, who pleaded guilty to money-laundering conspiracy, was sentenced to two years probation, while Victoria Eli, who pleaded guilty to fraud conspiracy, was sentenced to four months in a federal prison, four months of house arrest and two years of probation, the South Florida Sun Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale reported Monday.
"I'm very sorry and you will never see my face again, or doing any kind of wrongdoing -- me or my wife," Donnie Eli told U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra.
Rosie Marks' conduct was considered less egregious than her mother, Rose Marks, who was tried earlier this year, or the conduct of her aunt, two sisters-in-law and her niece, the Sun Sentinel said.
Rose Marks was found guilty of masterminding the fraud after a jury trial in September.
Nine members of the Marks family were arrested in August 2011 on federal charges they bilked customers of their psychic stores in Broward County and Manhattan. All but Rose Marks reached plea agreements.
