John Stanley Snorsky was charged Friday with first- and second-degree kidnapping, and burglary, after he was arrested for an unrelated parole matter, The Denver Post reported Saturday. Police picked up Snorsky on suspicion of felony theft in an incident Sept. 4 in which he allegedly made a false claim to a pawn broker.
How police made the connection between Snorsky and the attempted kidnapping Monday was not reported, but the provided enough physical details for a police sketch of her abductor, the newspaper said.
Police said the girl was on a bunk bed doing homework when the abductor removed a screen from a window, reached into the room and put his hand over her mouth. The girl told police the man said he knew her family and then dragged her outside.
When the girl's father heard her screaming he ran into the room and saw her running back from the alley separating their home from an adjacent apartment building.
Police did provide details about how the girl escaped once she was outside the home. She suffered minor injuries and was transferred at a hospital as a precaution.
Snorsky is an artist who specializes in nude self-portraits. On his Facebook page he said he's on a mission to save abused children.
Snorsky was being held on $600,000 bond.
