AURORA, Colo., Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Police in Aurora, Colo., were searching for a man who tried to kidnap an 8-year-old girl from her bedroom early Monday.
Aurora Police Sgt. Chris Amsler said officers were called to the family's one-story home about 12:15 a.m. after frantic 911 calls from the girl's family, The Denver Post reported.
Police said the girl was laying on a bunk bed in her bedroom doing homework when the unidentified abductor removed a screen from an adjacent window, reached into the room and put his hand over the girl's mouth. The girl told police the man said he knew her family and then dragged her outside.
When the girl's father heard her screaming he ran into the room and saw her running back from the alley separating their home from an adjacent apartment building.
Another child was asleep in the room at the time of the incident, Amsler said.
The suspect was described as a while male with blond hair wearing a black winter coat. Amsler said a gray newer-model BMW was seen speeding out of the alley where the girl escaped.
Police said they could not provide any details about how the girl escaped the man once she was outside the home. She suffered minor injuries and was transferred at a local hospital as a precaution. She was released later Monday morning, the Post said.
