Man arrested after taking hostages at N.C.CVS store; no injuries

BELMONT, N.C., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A man with an assault rifle was arrested after taking hostages and firing shots at a North Carolina CVS store Friday, police said. No injuries were reported.

A customer in the store in Belmont had spotted a man with an assault rifle and walked outside to call 911 around 1 a.m., WCNC, Charlotte, N.C. said.

When police, including SWAT officers, arrived, they ordered the gunman to drop his weapon and he starting firing, then took three store employees hostage, the report said.

The hostages were later released but the gunman stayed in the store until he was arrested hours later, police said.
