Mother arrested for injuring son by pulling on his penis

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- A mother was arrested at a Texas army base for allegedly injuring her son by pulling on his genitals then using superglue to treat the wounds she caused.

Jennifer Marie Vargas, 34, was arrested Wednesday at the Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston and charged by the FBI with assault within maritime and territorial jurisdiction resulting in serious bodily injury, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

An affidavit said, Vargas' husband, who is enlisted in the army, returned home on Sept. 27 to find his 6-year-old son crying in an upstairs bedroom. The father also found bloody tissue in the boy's underwear and a severe injury to his scrotum and brought him to a hospital.

"Due to the child's extreme physical pain, the medical staff had to administer medication," the affidavit said. "The child was taken into surgery to repair the damage to his scrotum."

Vargas later told investigators that she was angry with the boy and pulled him by his penis toward her as hard as she could.

She said she then applied alcohol and superglue to treat the wounds.

"She applied superglue to the (boy's) scrotum until the bleeding stopped, stuffed his underwear with paper towels, and then told him to go to bed," the affidavit said. "Vargas did not seek any type of medical treatment for the child."
