Mom sues Twitter after daughter is victim of online impersonation

ELMWOOD PARK, Ill., Oct. 18 (UPI) -- A Chicago-area woman, suing the social media service Twitter, said two accounts allegedly impersonated and made hurtful statements about her underage daughter.

In a pre-suit discovery filed against Twitter, Rose Martorana-Lollino of Elmwood Park, Ill., said those behind the fake accounts posted private information and made "hurtful and slanderous" comments.

The petition mentioned the Twitter accounts published comments about the girl's weight, saying "my passion is being fat," and encouraged readers to "sext" the girl by offering to perform sexual acts with her.

The lawsuit is meant to get the company to reveal who is behind the online impersonations. Both Twitter accounts have been suspended, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.
