Jury selection begins for accused killer of football's Sean Taylor

MIAMI, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Jury selection began Tuesday in Miami in the trial of one of five men accused breaking into the home of football star Sean Taylor and killing him.

Taylor, 24, who played at the University of Miami and was a rising star with the Washington Redskins, was shot to death in 2007, and after numerous delays, the trial of the man accused of pulling the trigger, Eric Rivera Jr., 23, has begun, The Miami Herald reported.

Rivera is facing life imprisonment if convicted of first-degree murder and armed burglary. Awaiting future trials are Charles Wardlow, 24, Jason Scott Mitchell, 25 and Timothy Brown, 22.

A fifth defendant, Venjah Hunte, 25, has pleaded guilty and may testify against the others, the newspaper said.

Jury selection is expected to last most of the week.
