WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., told The Hill Monday she believes Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder will be forced to change the team's name.
In an interview with the Washington publication, Norton, Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn., and Delegate Eni Faleomavaega, D-American Samoa, advocated for changing the controversial name.
Norton said trademark law eventually would force the team to change its name -- something Snyder has said will never happen -- while Faleomavaega said the National Football League should step in.
McCollum, co-chairwoman of the Congressional Native American Caucus, said Snyder is "in denial" and called the team name a slur. Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., the other co-chairman, also has said the team should find a new name.
Ten lawmakers sent a letter to Snyder earlier this year expressing their concerns, but he has not yet responded, The Hill said.
