MIAMI, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Octave brought heavy rains to Baja California, Mexico, Monday while Priscilla formed in the eastern Pacific, U.S. weather forecasters said.
Octave, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, was about 65 miles west-southwest of Cabo San Lazaro, Mexico, traveling north-northeast at p mph, the National Hurricane center said in its 5 p.m. PDT advisory
A tropical storm warning was in effect for Santa Fe to Punta Abreojos.
Octave was expected to lose some forward speed over the next 24 hours. On its forecast track, Octave's center was expected to approach the west coast of Baja California Sur state.
Forecasters said Octave should become a tropical depression Tuesday by the time it nears the Baja California peninsula.
Octave is expected to produce between 3 and 6 inches of rain over much of the peninsula, with up to 8 inches possible, forecasters said.
Priscilla, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, was about 630 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, moving north at 9 mph, the hurricane center said.
No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.
Priscilla was expected to decrease in forward speed and turn northwestward Tuesday and Wednesday.
