CONWAY, N.H., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Police said they were not yet ready to organize a major public search this weekend for a missing New Hampshire teenager.
Conway Police Chief Ed Wagner conceded Saturday they had little to go on in their hunt for 15-year-old Abigail Hernandez but that trained law enforcement officers and professional trackers were still working their way through the area where she was last seen.
"At this point they are asking the public to sort of hold tight," Wagner told reporters. "We are trying to exhaust the efforts of our professional Fish and Game people and professional trackers and experts in that area, and what they don't want is to have so many civilians out there that maybe they get lost."
Wagner said the public would probably be called in to help beat the bushes later in the week if no new leads turned up.

Wagner said the search and the steady stream of tips police had received had not turned up any hard clues as to what happened to the high school freshman who was last seen walking home from school Wednesday afternoon. "There haven't even been any little developments," Wagner said when asked if there were any major developments to report.
The initial search with tracking dogs followed Abigail's scent to her home; however it was not clear where she had gone after that, WMUR-TV in Manchester, N.H., said.
The Conway (N.H.) Daily Sun said Sunday the community was pitching by providing hotel rooms and food for the growing ranks of law enforcement officers taking part in the investigation.
Zenya Hernandez, the missing girl's mother, made a public appeal for her return on Saturday, which happened to be Abigail's birthday.
