Amber Alert website offline due to government shutdown

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- The federal Amber Alert website has been taken offline due to the U.S. government shutdown.

A post on site Sunday alerted visitors of the situation, KNBC-TV, Los Angeles, reported.

"Due to the lapse in federal funding, this Office of Justice Programs website is unavailable," the message read.

The site usually displays alerts about missing children and helps citizens connect with law enforcement officials.

California Highway Patrol officials said until the government is up and running, if an Amber Alert is issued, in California, authorities will page the media.
