Poll: San Francisco, Boston approve most of Obama's job performance

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- President Obama in nationwide polls isn't getting high approval ratings, but certain cities do give him positive ratings, a Harris Poll indicated.

Results of the Harris online survey released Thursday indicate Obama should go to either San Francisco or Boston if he wants to get some positive feedback, with 57 percent of San Franciscans and 51 percent of Bostonians giving him positive ratings. Next is Washington, 45 percent; Los Angeles, 44 percent and New York, 43 percent.

Harris said the results indicate Obama probably wants to avoid Texas, where only 31 percent in both Dallas and Houston give him positive ratings.

Members of Congress, mired in single-digit approval ratings, don't find any positive places, Harris said. Washington gave them 10 percent positive ratings, while Chicago and San Francisco gave them 13 percent and 12 percent, respectively.

Only 6 percent of people in Dallas and Boston view congressional members positively, Harris said.

Results are based on an online survey of 2,045 adults living in the top 10 U.S. markets by population Sept. 25-Oct. 1 by Harris Interactive. A margin of error was not reported.
