14-year-old boy allegedly shoots, kills 2 men at Oregon hunting cabin

GRANITE, Ore., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A 14-year-old boy shot and killed two men at a hunting cabin near Granite, Ore., police said Thursday.

Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer said investigators believe the boy shot and killed the two men with whom he was staying at the cabin Wednesday night, then fled on foot, the (John Day, Ore.) Blue Mountain Eagle reported.

After accidentally shooting himself in the leg, the boy returned to the cabin to seek help and was restrained by another occupant who ordered him to the floor at gunpoint and taped him to a chair until deputies arrived.

The cabin's owner drove the 9 miles to Granite and summoned police and an ambulance at about 12:20 a.m. Thursday, the newspaper said.

Palmer, Undersheriff Todd McKinley, and Deputies Ben Stinnett and Zach Mobley took over the crime scene, and the boy was taken to St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City and then flown by helicopter to St. Alphonsus in Boise, Idaho.

The names of the deceased, ages 43 and 64, of Baker City, were not released pending notification of next of kin. The boy also is from Baker City.
