Vice Adm. Tim Giardina was suspended from his post as deputy commander of the U.S. Strategic Command, StratCom officials told the Omaha (Neb.) World-Herald Friday. The suspension came down in early September and includes oversight of nuclear materials or nuclear issues -- or anything that requires security clearance, StratCom spokeswoman Capt. Pamela Kunze said.
She declined to describe the nature of the investigation.
Giardina had been scheduled to leave StratCom at the end of the year.
Strategic Command is located at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha.
