Police told the Los Angeles Times a vehicle with six people inside was speeding south on Interstate 5 when the driver attempted to get off at the Scott Road exit in Burbank about 4:20 a.m. and lost control. The vehicle struck a concrete barrier and burst into flames.
Five people inside the vehicle were killed. A sixth person was ejected from the car.
Paramedics rushed the survivor to a hospital, Burbank fire Capt. Peter Hendrickson said.
"It's a horrific scene," police Sgt. Darin Ryburn said. "Speed was involved. It's a single-vehicle accident. No other vehicles were involved."
The names of the victims were not released.
