The Rev. Robert L. Brennan was arrested Wednesday at his home in Perryville, Md., and extradited to Philadelphia, where he was charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Thursday.
Brennan figured heavily in a 2005 priest abuse investigation and the 2012 trial of Monsignor William J. Lynn, who was sentenced to three to four years in prison for covering up the conduct of pedophile priests, the Inquirer said.
In 2005, the Philadelphia District Attorney's office detailed 20 instances in which Brennan allegedly sexually abused children, but each case fell outside the statute of limitations, CNN reported. Brennan had allegedly been moved from parish to parish by Lynn because of abuse allegations.
After Lynn's conviction, though, a 26-year-old man came forward in January and said Brennan abused him from 1999 to 2001 while he was an altar boy at Resurrection of Our Lord parish in Rhawnhurst, Pa., the Inquirer reported.
