3 suspects indicted for impersonating police officers, robbery

NEW YORK, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- State and federal officials said several members of an alleged home invasion crew have been indicted on charges of robbery and impersonating police officers.

So far, 20 alleged members of the crew have been arrested, 16 of whom have already pleaded guilty, federal prosecutors said in a news release.

An indictment Wednesday charged Benny Lisojo, a former Hudson County corrections officer, Wilfredo Suarez, and Anthony Serrano with robbery conspiracy and firearms offenses.

Drug Enforcement Administration New York Division Special Agent in Charge Brian R. Crowell said the crew posed as police officers and carried loaded weapons to carry out robberies in New York and New Jersey.

"One crew member did not have to pretend he was a police officer -- because Benny Lisojo was a Hudson County corrections officer while committing these alleged crimes," Crowell said.
