Mother of missing girl mounts social media campaign

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- The biological mother of a missing North Carolina teen said she's mounting a social media campaign aimed at spurring law enforcement to solve the case.

Erica Parsons was 15 when her brother reported her missing in July -- when he called police to say he hadn't seen his sister since November, 2011.

Now Carolyn Parsons, Erica's biological mother, says she doesn't want the case to go cold and has enlisted friends, family and sympathizers to embark on a social media blitz to get the Rowan County Sheriff's Office to redouble efforts, WCNC-TV, Charlotte, N.C., reported.

Parsons said she had roughly 150 people Monday posting messages to Facebook and other sites about Erica.

"I want to say thank you to them, thank you for all the support for Erica and for me," Parsons said.

Erica's adoptive parents, Casey and Sandy Parsons, have been questioned in Erica's disappearance and about why they hadn't reported her missing for such a long time. The couple have maintained they thought Erica was living with her biological grandmother in Ashville, N.C., but efforts to find any such person have proved fruitless, police said.
