WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- The United States' first female secretary of state, Madeleine Albright, said she's joined the social medium Twitter.

Her handle is perhaps a reflection of the fact in many places around the world she requires little by way of introduction: @madeleine.

Albright's first tweet was a picture of herself -- no, not a selfie -- fiddling with her smartphone, USA Today reported Monday. It carried the message, "First of 3 female SecState's - last to join Twitter. Better late than never!"

The former top diplomat has gained 15,600 followers in the first few hours after creating her account.
