The man is expected to survive and no charges were levied against him as of late Friday night, the Boston Herald reported.

Three others were treated at the scene for injuries, and two firefighters were also injured.

Police are investigating the man's experiments and the explosion, which took place at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The FBI is assisting in the investigation, but police said they have ruled out the possibility that terrorism was connected to the blast.

"We'll be going through everything, not just the chemicals in the room, but all of the evidence as we execute a search warrant," Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis said.
