South Carolina Educational Lottery Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea said the winning ticket was sold at a Murphy USA gas station-convenience store in Lexington, a community of slightly less than 20,000 in the middle of the state, NBC News reported.

The winning numbers were 7, 10, 22, 32, 35 and the Powerball was 19. The ticketholder can claim an annuity valued at $400 million or take a lump sum of $223 million in cash -- or about $134 million after taxes, officials said.

Wednesday's jackpot was the fourth largest for Powerball and the fifth largest in any U.S. lottery, NBC News said.

Powerball is played in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
