Sept. 19, 2013 at 2:34 PM

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- A helicopter crew in Virginia Beach, Va., rescued a seagull Thursday that had been trapped in power lines for several days, officials said.

The rescue happened at about 8:40 a.m. EDT near Lesner Bridge in Virginia Beach, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported.

The helicopter crew, which was doing work nearby for Dominion, a power supply company, flew next to the power line and a crew member reached out, grabbed the bird and put it into a container.

The seagull has been handed over to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which will place it with a local animal rescue group or animal rehabilitation organization, said Bonita Billingsley Harris, a spokeswoman for Dominion.
