Sept. 19, 2013 at 3:58 PM

IONIA, Mich., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Two men shot and killed each other at a car wash in Ionia, Mich., in an apparent case of road rage, police said.

Witnesses said the confrontation began Wednesday evening, with one of the men following the other too closely in his car, WZZM-TV, Grand Rapids, reported. The first driver pulled into a car wash, the second pulled in behind him, the driver of the following car started shooting, and the other driver returned fire, the TV station said.

The victims -- identified as Robert Taylor, 56, and James Pullum, 43, both of Ionia -- both had licenses to carry concealed weapons, police said.

Pullum's mother-in-law told the Grand Rapids Press her daughter and Pullum's mother were in the car and witnessed the fatal shootout.
