MIAMI, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Manuel produced torrential rain as it hit land near Manzanillo, Mexico, and weakened into a tropical depression, forecasters in Miami said.
In its 11 p.m. EDT Sunday update, the National Hurricane Center said the center of Manuel was about 70 miles northwest of Manzanillo on the Pacific coast and about 385 miles east-southeast of Baja Mexico. The storm had top sustained winds of 35 mph. Manuel was moving northwest at 8 mph.
Manuel was expected to continue on that general motion until it dissipates, forecasters said.
The Mexican government discontinued tropical storm warnings.
Manuel was expected to produce 10 to 15 inches of rain over portions of the Mexican states of Guerrero and Michoacan, with as much as 25 inches possible in some places.
