SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- An Arizona woman was on suicide watch in Southern California, facing charges in the death of two children whose bodies were found in a hotel, police said.

Marilyn Edge, 42, of Scottsdale, was being held at the Santa Ana Police Department Sunday, and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to face murder charges in the death of her 13-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter, police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

Police said Saturday they found the children's bodies in a hotel room after Edge, who had tried to commit suicide, told them where to look, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Edge drove a car into steel poles behind a home improvement store in Costa Mesa, Calif., at about 8 a.m. PDT Saturday. After rescue crews pulled her from the car, she told authorities about the two children.

Bertagna told KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, Edge thought a propane tank in her car would explode in the collision. He said she tried to strangle herself when police arrived at the scene of the crash.

Edge was turned over to police after being treated at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif.
