North Carolina woman shot, son and his girlfriend charged

VALE, N.C., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- A teenager and his girlfriend in Catawba County, N.C., were charged with attempted murder after the shooting of the man's mother, authorities said.

Daniel Rhoney, 17, are Elizabeth Fowler, 16, were jailed in connection with the shooting of Sherri Rhoney at her home Wednesday, the Catawba County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said a sheriff's deputy noticed a woman lying on the lawn of a residence, and discovered she had been shot in the head, adding Daniel Rhoney later admitted he had fired the shot.

The shooting resulted from an argument, investigators said.

Sherri Rhoney was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with life-threatening injuries, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported Thursday.

Daniel Rhoney was jailed on $1 million bond, and Fowler was jailed on $500,000 bond. They are scheduled to appear in court Friday, the newspaper said.
